Carnegie Museum of Art (1999)
- Size: 14 sections, approximately 450 page
- Complexity: HTML, CSS, Perl
- Maintenance: Bi-weekly
Challenges:
- Create a classic design that was strong, intuitive, and wouldn't overpower the focus on the Museum's art collection and exhibitions.
- Keep page and image file sizes to a minimum without sacrificing style or clarity.
Web templates featuring colored blocks and small Museum photos were created for each section. Although seemingly simple, the strong colors and linear shapes provided all the right ingredients for a timeless, well-designed site by establishing a clear, straightforward interface, and an environment conveying an artistic theme without competing with the online art collection. The interface was structured so no page was more than four levels deep.
