Web Sites

Why be one-in-a-million when you can be one-in-18,000?

I designed and launched my first Web site in August 1995. According to MIT Web statistics, that site was one of only 18,000 in existence back in those early days of the World Wide Web*. For more than ten years, I've been involved in just about all aspects of Web deployment including:

  • project planning, management and design
  • application architecture and development
  • user interface and user interaction design
  • and multimedia production

The case studies here are a reflection of not only my evolving skills and roles, but also of the state of Web trends and technologies in use at the time. Like cars, yesterday's Web sites have a way of looking dated rather quickly due to advances in technology and styles. However, many of these examples hold up fairly well years later, and although technologies change, good design and the process by which Web sites are fundamentally created remains the same.

*According to WebCraft statistics for October 2007, there are now more than 148 million Web sites.
